The Bocchetta di Eclou pass connects Val d&#8217;Ayas with the <strong>Estoul Lakes<\/strong> basin, which can be reached in a very short tampo via the <em>Val d&#8217;Ayas Trail 6B<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you reach Bocchetta, it takes about an hour to reach <strong>Punta Valnera <\/strong><strong>(2754 m)<\/strong>, one of the peaks located just above the town of Gressoney-Saint-Jean (clearly visible from the summit). You can get there in two ways: either along a rather challenging ridge trail (via the continuation of Trail 4), or by following an alternative route without any technical difficulty that reaches the <strong>Valnera Colletto<\/strong> and then climbs directly to the Peak.<\/p>\n<p>Punta Valnera is about half an hour from <strong>Colle Valnera (2676 m)<\/strong>, which can be reached from the valley floor via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sentierigressoney.it\/en\/sentieri\/punta-valfredda-trail-5\/\" class=\"sentiero-chip clickable-chip\">\n                    <i class=\"fas fa-hiking chip-icon-fa\"><\/i> \n                    <span class=\"chip-label\">TRAIL 5<\/span>\n                <\/a>: you can then descend to the Colle and return to Gressoney-Saint-Jean following <a 2217 meters, <strong>Alpe Gruebe (2280m)<\/strong> finally appears, in the middle of a wide basin dominated on the left by Mt. Cios\u00e8. You can reach Alpe Gruebe via two different trails, one on the left and the other on the right (yes, there are two different sets of yellow markers, probably from different eras). I always take the right-hand path, which climbs along the edge between the meadow and the boulders on the right: there are numerous yellow markers and cairns. above<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<h1>Continuation towards Punta Valnera<\/h1>\n<p>From the Bocchetta Pass it takes about an hour to reach <strong>Punta Valnera (2754m), <\/strong>following two different routes of varying difficulty.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The first <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(in red in the map below)<\/span> follows the continuation of Trail 4 along the ridge leading to the point: definitely not recommended for those with vertigo, as there are 3 easy climbing passages, but one of them is quite exposed (in red in the map below).<\/li>\n<li>The second <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">(in yellow in the map below)<\/span>, without any technical difficulty, leaves the ridge after a few meters, descending on the side of the slope on the Val D&#8217;Ayas side, and continues practically straight until it crosses the <em>Val d&#8217;Ayas Trail 6A<\/em>, which climbs from the Estoul Lakes. <strong>Estoul Lakes<\/strong>, over Mount <strong>Bieteron<\/strong> beyond the Colletto Valfredda to the west, over the <strong>Corno Bussola<\/strong> to the northwest, and over <strong>Punta (left coming down from the point), you have to take the opposite direction (north, right coming down from the point). You descend into the basin below, and come following the trail to a fork (indicated by clear yellow markers) that points in the direction of <strong>5C<\/strong>, which descends, on the left, to the Arp hut in Val D&#8217;Ayas. I passed them without any particular problems, but they prevented me from following the correct trail at times.<\/li>\n<li>I spotted (and photographed as always from too far away) a herd of chamois on a small snowfield above the Albe Gruebe.<\/li>\n<li>I lost the trail just above Gruebe Alp, following vague tracks that turned out to be wrong, but fortunately managed to find it again just above thanks to the GPS track I had uploaded to my phone.<\/li>\n<li>Descending down the deserted Valnera, I met a female ibex with a gorgeous cub who stood watching me in amazement, letting me get quite
